Random Thoughts :)

Hello everyone!

I know it's
been a while.
IT'S A BUSY TIME IN THE CAKE WORLD! I finally had a break this week.

So, we had our "action" pictures sent back to us from a few weeks ago.. I love them h
aha
Typically we don't have on our chef jackets, but it was for fun ;)

ALSO:
ALL BRIDES THAT BOOKED WITH HIGHLAND MANOR HAVE LOST THEIR VENUE! If you have or know someone who has booked with Highland Manor, the venue has closed. Apparently they couldn't pay their bills and got kicked out leaving booked brides without a venue and their money!!!! Police are looking for the owners as we speak. I can't believe someone would just run like that! Crazy people.

On a different, I'm going to try to blog with Perfect Wedding Guide. They're looking for people, and I think this could be a great opportunity. I'll keep you all posted!

I worked an event last weekend at the Winter Park Farmers Market. I love this venue! It look like a
vintage train station. I didn't like the fact that there were no windows, but I don't think they were missed. I didn't like working there, however, it was so cramped! I could barely move around the dance floor. So that was a downfall. But, it was a nice little venue that I think more people should check out.

I think that is all on my side. Haven't done a really sweet cake in a while. See you all soon!

Candy Bars :)

There has been an upcoming trend of candy bars. Every guest at a wedding will receive some sort of compartment that will allow them to fill it with pieces of candy that are arranged in a beautiful array of said wedding's colors. Now, I have seen this at a number of weddings and can't help but smile!!!!!!!

There are a few sites that you can specifically order candies that compliment your wedding:

http://www.candywarehouse.com/weddingcandy.html

http://www.candywrapperstore.com/Wedding_s/3.htm

http://www.buzzle.com/articles/wedding-candy-buffet-ideas.html

Those are some sites that show how to do it and where to get the goods :)

You can buy name brand candies in your wedding colors. I know M&Ms does it and Hershey. Its a cute idea and honestly, people will USE this and not the crappy candle you left on the table. Its not cliche and its not old... yet. GET IT WHILE ITS HOT!

Cake is FUN

Hello all! Well its been a productive week in the cake world. I delivered all weekend (sunday too) and had some fun with my bf. I just randomly googled "funny cakes" and I swear it was such a laugh!! You all need to do it. It will be a good time.

So, cakes I made this week:
1. A FABULOUS baby shower cake for a hippie couple (who I will love, if I ever meet them). How cute is the ZEBRA?!?

2. A Louis Vuitton purse. Which I made all of the 'LV' s by hand, which was challenging, but my boss is throwing me into deeper water so I can learn under the gun and be a better me :)

Deliveries went well. I have to drive to BFE tomorrow. UGH.

At the moment, I think I want to become a food writer. If only I could go to school for four more years... Ill keep dreaming :)

SEE YOU ALL ON THE FLIP.

Cake Royalty..

I havent watched the wedding yet, I know, I know. The cake, however, has been the highlight of day in the cake shop. I think its crazyyyy old-school, but traditional. Fruitcake? Ill pass, but I have read that it is very popular in Europe for weddings. BUT, is it the tradition fruitcake we, Americans, cant stand? Or a traditional cake cake that is delicious and moist? Ill research for you all and let you know my outcome.

By the way, we do most of our deliveries on the weekend. Saturday is more popular. So if you think having a 9-5(?) job in the pastry world is all I do, I have to put a lot of gas and miles into it to. This is the downside, but I looove it. :)

Complaints are sucky too. Well heres a pic of the Royal Wedding Cake :) Enjoy!

Rolling in the dough..... kind of.

SO, today was an interesting day in the cake world. I have read up on my wedding material (I am not getting married, it just comes with the industry), and have noticed this ridiculous pose that bridal parties do : The Jump and Smile Pose. I think we need to tuck this back into the NEVER DO AGAIN vault and move on. Im sorry for those of you have have done this or are planning to in the near future. Why the hell do photographers believe this is unique still???

Anyways, a few days ago, I had my photo taking while in "action". Granted, I was trying to act normal, which probably lead to my being awkward in these photos. They should be here soon and Im excited to put them into my profile. I feel like they will make my portfolio say "LOOK AT ME! IM SO NERDY I GOT PICTURES OF ME WORKING!" but I think its funny, so Im going to do it.

I worked on a cake today that was black and teal. Im definitely digging this teal thing. Bring on the teal! I think its a fresh color that hasnt been worn out yet :)

Heres a view of me in all my glory. (Photo credits go to my boss :) )

Eat cake and be merry!

Who actually wants to avoid the sweet tastes of your favorite indulgences over a few inches off of your waist?

Here it is. A cake blog. YES, I SAID CAKE!! I will relay recipes, techniques and favorites to you, my readers, for a simple break from life. Feel free to comment and add tips or advice. Im open to all.

Because one of my passions is writing and my love is food, I figured put the two together. Since Im working in a specialty cake shop now, this blog is focused on cake.

First topic. Bling cakes. I think Im actually liking this theme. Flashy, hot pink, and zebra? Who can resist? If I didnt eat cake almost everyday, I would have just pictured my dream birthday cake. Since I am constantly surrounded by new ideas, I have become fond of feathers and glitz.... which is very off track for me. Maybe I feel edgy? What are your thoughts? I think Im in love.
